very conservative this year's Oscars, since all favourites (or second favourites) won:
Best Picture: Titanic Best Director: James Cameron Best Actor: Jack Nicholson Best Actress: Helen Hunt Best supporting Actor: Robin Williams Best supporting Actress: Kim Basinger Best Original Screenplay: Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Best Adapted Screenplay: Curtis Hanson
The Titanic won 11 Oscars in total, sweeping the technical awards but nobody apart from the British (I think they deserved an Oscar for Judi Dench) and the independents (no Robert Duvall or Peter Fonda). Anyway, I still have my doubts for the best picture, but of course this year Hollywood came to the conclusion that quality is walking hand by hand with quantity. Still very good for Kim Basinger and Robin Williams. I hope they will avoid flops in the recent future. Please Robin no more Flubber or Jack! Good also for the screenplay awards which tend to be the lifesavers of the decency of Hollywood the last few years. A triumph for James L. Brooks, who proved once more that he is an actor's director!
That's all from me. Awaiting your views on the awards. Ah, and Billy Crystal started brilliantly with the hosting, but I have a feeling he was under-utilised in the second half of the show.
